Andy Levin on Government Reform

Supports election reform & overturning Citizens United

I support a constitutional amendment to reverse˙Citizens United. I support full disclosure of the source of all money donated to candidates or used to influence elections. I support public financing of˙campaigns. I support stronger ethics rules. We must turn democracy from a spectator sport in which people simply vote every˙few years into a critical task in which we all participate to debate the issues, defend our interests and˙demand our rights.

Turn democracy from a spectator sport to participation sport

Q: What federal policies do you support regarding campaign funding and voting rights?

Andy Levin: Our democracy is under attack, from gerrymandering, hidden corporate money, and voter suppression. We have to make sure every citizen can vote; we have to get unlimited money out of politics; and we have to establish nonpartisan redistricting. But we must do more, and turn democracy from a spectator sport in which people simply vote every few years--with ever-lower turnout, it seems--to a sport in which we all participate to debate the issues, defend our interests and demand our rights.

PVS:Regulate campaign donations from corporations.

Levin supports the PVS survey question on regulating campaign donations

Project Vote Smart inferred whether candidates agree or disagree with the statement, 'Campaign Finance: Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?' PVS self-description: "The Political Courage Test provides voters with positions on key issues. Historically, candidates have failed to complete our test due to the advice they receive from their advisors and out of fear of negative attack ads."
