Eliot Cutler on Principles & Values
New non-partisan vision: not right; not left; but forward
Our politics are broken. Even though we all recognize that Maine faces severe tests, it has been nearly impossible to move the needle in our polarized political environment. Our ability to engage in public discourse--to explore together the very
solutions and strategies that might benefit Maine and to make hard choices together--has fallen victim to bitter partisanship that has divided our community. Many of our leaders have come to look at politics, and at governing itself, as a zero-sum,
winner-take-all, blood sport.
A plan for Maine doesn't need to be red or blue, right or left, liberal or conservative. It needs to be smart and to stand on the facts. It needs to protect and to create opportunities for each Maine citizen to reach his
or her greatest potential. It needs to be fair & fiscally responsible. And it needs to be given a chance to work.
We won't find the answers to our challenges in a rearview mirror. We need a new vision, a plan and a strategy that points the way forward.
