Jilletta Jarvis in OnTheIssues interviews with 2018 candidates

On Abortion: Provide birth control & adoption instead of abortion

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Abortion is a woman's unrestricted right"?

A: I do not believe the government should be stepping in place of doctors in this issue.ÿ I believe we should support women by making sure that there is access to affordable birth control--even after midnight, regardless of who or where they are. I do not support legislation that would make the non-willful termination of any unborn fetus to not be considered murder, regardless of the unborn's age.ÿ I also do not support abortion when the child could be brought into the world early and given up for adoption.

On Budget & Economy: Stimulus by tax rebate checks; let consumers decide

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Stimulus better than market-led recovery"?

A: The consumers of America should be the ones who decide which companies succeed or fail.ÿ If the government wants to stimulate the economy, it should be in the form of tax rebate checks to the tax payer allowing them to decide where their money goes.

On Crime: Punishment doesn't reduce crime; focus on rehabilitation

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Stricter punishment reduces crime"?

A: I do not believe this is true. It depends on the crime. It has been proven that within 3 years of release, 7 out of 10 non-violent offenders will commit a violent crime.ÿ Prisons are not focusing on rehabilitation.

On Government Reform: Make voter registration easier: online & more options

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Make voter registration easier"?

A: Yes.ÿ I'd like to see online voter registration that automatically removes previous registration when you move to a different voting ward (with a security check so no one else can change your voter registration on you).ÿ I'd also like to see more options for the elderly and those with disabilities or parents of young children when it comes to voting.

On Health Care: ObamaCare caused insurance prices to go up

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Expand ObamaCare"?

A: Obamacare caused insurance prices to go up.ÿ I'd rather see other options, like with the Arizona Tax Credit option (altered to fit NH's needs), ending pharmaceutical price fixing, cross state insurance, and reforming licensing requirements on medical staff so that medical staff licensed in other states do not have to re-license just by crossing the state border

On Immigration: Background checks against possible terrorism

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens"?

On Jobs: Hire based on qualifications, not sex or ethnicity

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Legally require hiring more women/minorities"?

A: I do not support forcing the hiring of unqualified individuals.ÿ People should be hired based on qualifications and this should have no bearing on their sex or ethnicity.

On Tax Reform: No higher taxes on the wealthy

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Higher taxes on the wealthy"?

A: No.ÿ A percentage tax automatically is more money from the pocket of a wealthy person.ÿ I would prefer to lower taxes in NH through careful budget reduction and reduction of waste.

On War & Peace: Stop fighting someone else's wars

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Avoid foreign entanglements"?

A: Yes.ÿ I am not a supporter of fighting someone else's wars.ÿ I'd also like to see support limited to agreements where we support only those countries with aid that in turn support us when we have disasters.ÿ We have a great many charities who support countries that cannot do this.
