Arvin Vohra in OnTheIssues interviews with 2018 candidates

On Abortion: Government has no business being involved in abortion

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Abortion is a woman's unrestricted right"?

A: Support. I do not support abortion, or consider it a good idea. However, I do not believe the government has any business being involved. While I would personally advise against abortions, I do not support any government restrictions on abortion of any kind.

On Budget & Economy: Free market and real growth is the answer

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Stimulus better than market-led recovery"?

A: Strongly oppose. Crony capitalism is not the answer; neither is welfare. The free market, which creates real jobs, real innovation, and real growth is the answer. If elected, I will work to end all corporate welfare, all welfare for the poor, and all middle-class welfare (e.g. government schools).˙

On Civil Rights: Same-sex marriage ok; or any number of consenting adults

Q: What about same-sex marriage?

A: Strongly support. I support any number of any gender of consenting adults committing themselves to each other in any way. If 8 men and 5 women want to get married, that's their business and their right. Government should have no involvement at all. If elected, I will sponsor legislation to repeal any government involvement in marriage, including any law that interferes with gay marriage, polygamy, or any other form of commitment.

On Crime: Drug crime is fake crime; abolish the DEA

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Stricter punishment reduces crime"?

A: Neutral. Most current imprisonment is for fake crime, such as drug crime. If there is no victim, there is no crime. If elected, I will sponsor legislation to end the war on drugs, abolish the DEA, release nonviolent drug users, sellers, traffickers, and kingpins from prison, and cut taxes accordingly.

On Drugs: Drugs should be as legal as tomatoes

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Marijuana is a gateway drug"?

A: Oppose. If elected, I will sponsor legislation to end the war on drugs. I want drugs to be as legal as tomatoes, so that drug businesses can settle disputes by calling their credit card companies, instead of resorting to violence. I want to end all drug related violence; I want there to be no more innocent bystanders. That comes from legalizing all drugs, so that disputes can be handled without violence.

On Education: Vouchers are just food stamps for education

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Vouchers for school choice"?

A: Strongly oppose. This is just replacing one type of welfare (government schools) with another type of welfare (vouchers). Vouchers are just food stamps for education. It is the parent's responsibility to provide education, not˙ If it's not your kid, it's not your responsibility. If you can't afford to pay for education, and can't be bothered to learn to homeschool, don't have kids.

On Energy & Oil: Green energy has advantages; but let market handle it

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Prioritize green energy"?

A: Support. The free market does this; government should not be involved at all. Cell phones, for example, use low power screens, which extends battery life. Green energy already has advantages. I oppose government involvement; the free market handles this better.

On Environment: Fight EPA regulatory over-reach

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Fight EPA regulatory over-reach"?

A: Support.˙

On Foreign Policy: America should be the greatest country on earth

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Support American Exceptionalism"?

A: Strongly support. America should be the greatest country on earth. That will come from ending the welfare state, including government schools, shutting down foreign military bases and bringing the troops home, and abolishing the income tax. Let American genius and innovation, not welfarism, guide America to legitimate greatness.

On Free Trade: Eliminate all tariffs, sanctions, & trade restrictions

Q: Do you support or oppose free trade?

A: Strongly support. If elected, I will sponsor legislation to eliminate all tariffs, sanctions, & trade restrictions. I want North Korean businesses to learn about American culture and spread that knowledge in North Korea, so that the people there see something better than the communism they currently face. I want them to see the wonders created by free market capitalism. I want to spread American culture through trade, not waste effort on sanctions and war.

On Government Reform: Make voter registration easier for Libertarians

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Make voter registration easier"?

A: Agree. Today, in many states, Libertarian voters face blockades to registering Libertarian, or voting for Libertarian candidates. The two old parties do everything they can to keep us off the ballot entirely. That is completely immoral. I will do everything I can to stop that kind of voter suppression. Voting is not just for Democrats and Republicans. Libertarians have the right to vote our conscience.

On Gun Control: Purpose of guns are to keep government as our servant

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Absolute right to gun ownership"?

A: Guns aren't for hunting; they are for fighting government overreach. I encourage individuals to buy the most powerful automatic weapons they can afford, because the government has pretty powerful weapons on its side.˙

Q: So you differ from the usual pro-Second Amendment stance that gun ownership is for self-protection? And instead focus on the need for keeping the federal government in check?

A: Government should fear the people; people should not fear the government. The government should behave like meek, respectful employees, not bosses. After all, you pay the government; the government doesn't pay you. The government should be a fearful servant, not an aggressive master. A well-armed populace helps keep government in check. A better armed populace keeps the government in check better.

On Health Care: Lower medical costs come from price competition

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Expand ObamaCare"?

A: Strongly oppose. Lower medical costs come from price competition, as has happened with laser eye surgery. Laser eye surgery is not covered by government insurance. Its price has dropped like a rock. EpiPen is covered by government; its price has skyrocketed. The free market lowers medical costs; government increases them.

Q: So what would you do with ObamaCare, repeal or replace, or some combination?

A: If elected, I will sponsor legislation to end the FDA, repeal Obamacare, abolish Medicare, abolish Medicaid, eliminate restrictions on foreign doctors practicing in America, and cut taxes accordingly.

On Homeland Security: Shut down foreign military bases & withdraw from NATO

Q: Do you support or oppose expanding the military?

A: Strongly oppose. The mission has been, frankly, corrupted. It is unconscionable to encourage young men and women to pursue morally dubious work in the service of an ill-considered, nonstrategic foreign policy. I would sponsor legislation to reduce military personnel to the bare minimum needed for defense of America. I would sponsor legislation to shut down foreign military bases, end involvement in foreign civil wars, and withdraw from NATO.

On Immigration: Pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens

Q: What about a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens?

A: Support. I support open borders, and absolutely no welfare. Those who come to America to work should be welcome. Welfare parasites should go elsewhere. Eliminating all welfare, including government schools, is far more effective at keeping out parasites than any wall. Ending the welfare state will also attract job creators to America. If elected, I will sponsor legislation to eliminate all welfare and all restrictions on immigration.

On Jobs: Eliminate all affirmative action laws & racial quotas

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Legally require hiring more women/minorities"?

A: Strongly oppose. If elected, I will sponsor legislation to eliminate all Affirmative Action laws, racial quotas, gender preference requirements, etc. I will also sponsor legislation to repeal any restrictions on business decisions to refuse service or fire employees. Any business has the natural right to refuse service to anyone for any reason, or fire anyone for any reason. Business owners are free individuals, not government servants. If elected, I will sponsor legislation to repeal any law that forces a business to provide service to or not fire anyone.

On Principles & Values: Government out of matters of conscience & God

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Keep God in the public sphere"?

A: Strongly oppose. The government should not be involved in matters of conscience at all. I will sponsor legislation to dismantle most or all government agencies, regulations, and taxes. Government should be too small and insignificant for God to need to be a part of it.

Source: OnTheIssues interview of 2018 Maryland Senate candidate Mar 30, 2018

On Social Security: Supports privatizing Social Security

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Privatize Social Security"?

A: Support. If elected, I will sponsor legislation that will pay people back what they paid in, and then shut down the Social Security program for good. If you paid in $20, you get back $20. If you paid in $200,000, you get that back. If you're a recent immigrant and paid in nothing, you get nothing.˙

On Tax Reform: End welfare & other programs, and then abolish income tax

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Higher taxes on the wealthy"?

A: Strongly oppose. I support ending all welfare, including government schools, charter schools, vouchers, and other forms of educational welfare, and abolishing the income tax entirely. If elected, I will sponsor legislation to dismantle the welfare state and cut taxes accordingly.

On War & Peace: Stop creating enemies; withdraw from foreign entanglements

Q: Do you support or oppose the statement, "Avoid foreign entanglements"?

A: Strongly agree. We need to stop creating enemies; current military policy is wasting our money, sending young men and women into morally dubious employment, and making us less safe. I will sponsor legislation to withdraw from NATO, end all foreign entanglements, downsize the military, shut down foreign military bases, and cut taxes accordingly.
