2012 Democratic National Convention speeches: on Abortion

Lincoln Chafee: A woman should make her own reproductive decisions

We believe in personal freedom. We do not want the government controlling our personal lives, or our most personal decisions.

Believing in freedom, as we do, we don't think it's the role of government to pass judgment on a relationship between two consenting adults, regardless of their orientation. Believing in freedom, we believe a woman should make her own reproductive decisions.

Bev Perdue: Guarantee women access to birth control & Planned Parenthood

President Obama has fought to guarantee that women have access to quality, affordable health care, including making sure that insurance plans cover birth control with no out-of-pocket cost. And unlike Mitt Romney, President Obama is standing up for Planned Parenthood.

Tim Kaine: Don't deny privacy to women making health care decisions

[As governor], we worked with Democrats, Republicans and independents to get results. Over the last four years, the GOP pushed ideology and wedge issues. Last week, they passed a platform demanding privacy for Super PACs and denying privacy to women making health care decisions. Meanwhile, Democrats fought for the middle class.
